If you have witnessed, heard about or perpetrated an event which you experienced as traumatic, and you are still experiencing nightmares, flashbacks and other intrusive symptoms (ie you remember the event when you don’t intend to), the Rewind Technique may be for you.
The Rewind Technique is easily learnt by the majority of people, and where a single trauma is the cause of the PTSD, only about 2-3 sessions are required. For multiple event traumas, such as sexual abuse and domestic violence, each traumatic event can be dealt with separately over several sessions, or can sometimes be dealt with in one session, depending on how the involuntary recall presents.
The Rewind will not erase your memory of the traumatic event – you will be able to remember it if you choose to – but it should stop involuntary recall in the form of flashbacks, nightmares, panic attacks and other unwanted symptoms. As with any therapy, results aren’t guaranteed, but the Rewind Technique is estimated to be effective in reducing PTSD symptoms in about 80% of people. If you are struggling to get help for your trauma symptoms, whether because of waiting lists or financial constraints, the Rewind Technique is well worth trying.
I offer the Rewind Technique as a stand-alone therapy, or it can be integrated into a block of counselling or EMDR sessions if appropriate. If you are unsure of the best approach for you, please feel free to book a no-obligation introductory session so that we can discuss the best way forward for you.
